Setup Xibo to enable Translations

This is a large undertaking - because large sections of the code need to be modified to use the gettext library.

We're therefore targeting to 1.1 (which is an unstable development branch) with a view to translations being available in a stable Xibo version 1.2.0 and onwards.

It's a big work but I started this evening with the basic "header.php", "footer.php" and the "install.php" (more terms !). At this time, i've created the file with PoEditor for "fr_FR" locale with 102 unique message translate (lot of repetition in error message) and add locale directory...
I start test and send the "pot" file when i've got more terms (this week).

Damien - nice to see how keen you are to get started! We have some ideas of how we would like to implement translations into the Xibo code. Before you go too much further we should make sure that what you are doing is the same as what we think we want to do!

It would not be too for us to waste your time.

For example we would like to check for gettext support and take appropriate action with a wrapper function (if gettext isn't enabled). We may also want to remove some of the error messages in Xibo that are very similar.

My target is to get 1.0 released by the end of this week and then immediately look into implementing the wrapper functions and some examples of how I think gettext will work - once this is done we could make a list of files and tackle some each? Making sure that we used the same method for implementing gettext.

We should discuss this further!

No problem ! I have never use gettext on a project and i learn how it work with install file of Xibo.
I don't want translate all the server but if I don't know how it work, I just help you when you will convert all source code and publish in Launchpad ;)

Today, I've got problem with changing locale to french with setlocale() (Apache 2 on Ubuntu workstation) but now i've got my Poedit configured and automatic search in source and is very cool tool !

I've read that create a custom function for compatibility with another translate system may be the best practice for this type of project.

No precipitation for me ! I just test in experimental branch ;) I don't want to appropriate this project but really help ;)

Update : Gettext work now for me after update my locale on Linux Ubuntu Intrepid (locale-gen fr_FR and locale-gen fr_FR@euro )
