I was actually able to find a solution to this myself. To follow up as a
temporary fix for anyone else interested:
After applying that registry fix, the only change I had to make to Xibo
to allow pptx files to work was to change the mysql database for
"accepted file extension types". To do this, I went into the module
table, and changed the entry for "Powerpoint" related to accepted file
extensions. I simply added pptx (after ppt,pps). This appears to be
everything that needed to be changed as Xibo now allows pptx uploads and
the shows play fine from within the IE window on the client player. (I
am running IE8 on Windows7).
