Store a shrunk version of an image when it is uploaded for HTML preview

When an image is uploaded, a smaller version of this image should be stored in the database / media store. I am sure this smaller version can be created using the GD library. Having this new file would be really good as it means that the HTML preview would load much quicker than if large (>5Mb) images are uploaded.
