Default indicator order
The default order of indicators should be something that works well for most. To find good defaults, we should collect preferences from the team.

kalikiana: ... - network - messages - clock - me - session
DanRabbit: I would say the clock should be at the edge of only the permanent indicators (me, messages, session, etc). Otherwise the clock becomes a "moving target" as other indicators shuffle in and out. If WingPanel were to become a full screen panel however I would want the clock in the center ;)
alam.hor:I agree with DanRabbit Clock should be in the center I think that keyboard indicator should be smaller and go right next to the clock it's not that important anyway!
chawsum: the memenu can resize (name) so it should (and is now in wingpanel) to the left of the clock. the session menu is still to the far right, since it never moves or changes anyway.
Wutzara: I have the indicator-network installed - but this indicator is at the moment to the far right (which i think is a bad position)

I know this topic is over a year old but it still needs some work. Right now my order is (left to right): wifi, user session, sound, mail, booting&system options. A more logical order would be: app indicators, default indicators, user, booting. Also, in the booting menu we can delete the system settings (these should all be included in Switchboard anyway, perhaps put a link to Switchboard instead). Maybe even merge the user session and the booting indicator, since both are about ending the session, or add more user-related stuff. --KevinKleinman
++ Add the updater to Slingshot as an app (so that it can be available at all times) and show an indicator when new updates are found.
++ DanRabbit even already made a perfect mock-up half a year ago! http://
