Hi,
Can you add zeroconf/avahi to your software ? So, people have just to plug they cable and all is setup automatically. (called Limited mode on Windows and aviable on NetworkManager).
Thanks

This is a very bad idea, because zeroconf/avahi/bonjour is fundamentally and irredeemably a bad idea. Two computers should NEVER connect simply by plugging in the cable, because the operating system cannot know ahead of time whether what's on the other end is secure. Further, the avahi implementation of zeroconf is the major reason that Ubuntu networking is so unstable and unreliable.

The whole reason that my company ships wicd preinstalled by default is that wicd configures the network correctly and easily, without introducing the insecure and unstable zeroconf/avahi/bonjour protocol. Wicd enables network connectivity correctly, and we should not break it by introducing zeroconf.
