Extended place handling

Registered by Veit Olschinski

a lot of todays programs administer extended data for places, but in different ways. webtrees should be able to import and use these data via gedcom. The aim should be to be able to submit descriptions, pictures, coordinates once for a place and have it available on every event connected to this place.
It should also be possible to take name changes and administrative changes (county, parish) into account. A very good example of such a place hierarchy is http://gov.genealogy.net/Locale.do?language=en&country=uk

Whiteboard

Veit,
I plan to have a quick stab at googlemaps v3 api on my own.
That way I can assess the work required, and how we should tie in with places if necessary.
Fair enough?

December 2013:

I just started to develop a GOV module for webtrees 1.5 (see http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/GOV in German; search for places in English: http://gov.genealogy.net/search/index/select?lang=en ).

I started with code of the google maps module, but finally I have rewritten a lot (after many years without programming experience). Still some things to be done, but it is on the way.
