Whay not using this ? It will let us concentrate on the indicator and not on weather retrieving

[roignac] another possible backend might be python-gweather - available in ubuntu repos
[roignac] C version of gweather support almost all need stuff for weather indicator, but python bindings allow just to select a city. For now, we'll use gweather to select a city and pymetar to get weather data
[roignac] py-wapi seems to be a good idea too - might be useful to get forecasts and sunrise data
[roignac] after an investigation it seems, that the most rich API is Yahoo! Weather, but it uses special city IDs, which are very hard to search through. If somebody will be able to get yahoo city Id by city name, the blueprint will be approved
