Allow ubuntuone client to follow symlinks
It would be great if the ubuntuone client could follow symlinks, this way the user could be able to link the Desktop inside "Ubuntu One/My Files" and have it synchronized automatically, even among several computers.
ie:
~/Ubuntu One/My Files/Desktop -> ~/Desktop

Whiteboard
Not sure if I am supposed to put my thoughts here, but here goes:
Like most people, I already have a folder structure in ~ with all my data organised how I like it. However UbuntuOne would be great for backing up certain aspects of that. I don't want to move all the data that needs to be backed up into the Ubuntu One folder, so being able to add symbolic links to certain folders, e.g. Documents means I can selectively backup certain data without re-organising my well established file structure.
I know that it is aimed at sharing data across multiple computers and this could be a problem witht he symbolic links, but I imagine a large proportion of the users will be using it for backup of key data that can be accessed online and shared with friends and not take advantage of computer - computer synchronisation.
Thanks for the great idea! We plan to implement the ability to sync arbitrary directories, including your desktop, in a version of Ubuntu One after Ubuntu 9.10. However, we are not using the blueprint system to track work in Ubuntu One, instead we are using the bug tracker only, so I'm going to mark this blueprint as obsolete to close it out.
