No more hassle to configure resolutions.

Today we want Ubuntu to be usable by anyone, but still it's not so easy to get a CRT monitor well set up under Xorg. A lot of people still have to use modelines and such, which are not very user friendly (and might also damange the screens ..). So we need something done on that part.

KDE comes with some profiles. I tried the one for my monitor (vision master pro 450) and my own settings are still way better... I don't know about gnome though.

Whiteboard

Sounds basically like a dupe of this one: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/xorg-config-ui

 * 2007-08-17 bryce: The DisplayConfigGtk and BulletProofX specs are both implemented for Gutsy and should provide adequate solutions to this feature need now.
