Enable usb-modeswitch by default so that 3g dongles work out of the box
Many people use USB dongles to access the Internet. Some of these dongles require that the usb-modeswitch is installed and enabled. Here's a case scenario:
Joe Bloggs is working out of the office. He needs to check his email but cannot find a wi-fi connection. He plugs his USB dongle in but gets no response from Ubuntu. Having no Internet means that it is difficult for him to research how to get his dongle to work. Joe Bloggs misses and important email because he was unable to get online.
Scenario 2:
John Doe is a computer technician. One of the Ubuntu machines that cannot be physically connected to the network needs some work done on it. He plugs the dongle in and it doesn't work because Ubuntu doesn't appear to detect it, so the company has to pay for petrol/gasoline to bring the computer back to base to get the work done. Alternatively John Doe could use his Windows laptop/netbook to connect to the Internet and download the files, however this is more fiddly and it will be more time consuming working on two computers and having to use a usb memory stick to transfer files.
Solution:
Make usb-modeswitch work out of the box and Ubuntu will detect the dongle correctly.
If usb-modeswitch was ready out of the box then this situation wouldnt happen.
