Ubuntu Configuration Assistant

Registered by JLR

New users of ubuntu need to do many things when they install it, like download the codecs and drivers, enable composite and beryl, etc. Also, they need to download lots of depps with each package, usually the same: java, allegro, xml, python, and the other libs.

An assistant that appears after instalation should help the user to easy download all that useful packs and configure his system.

Whiteboard

I saw a specification for this one already and it plans to incorporate the EasyUbuntu package. I don't remember what it was called, nor can I seem to find it at the moment. -Ross

You may be thinking of automatix2 (http://www.getautomatix.com/). This tool is awesome, but it incorporates stuff that Ubuntu should not install by default in the US. - Bill Cox
