Third-party driver updates for Ubiquity

Registered by Colin Watson

We want to encourage third-party hardware vendors to supply driver updates that can be installed by Ubiquity, allowing Ubuntu to be installed on systems that were not supported at the time of release. This specification discusses how these driver updates should be acquired and installed by Ubiquity, strategies for upgrading those drivers along with Ubuntu kernel updates, and related issues.

Whiteboard

Benefits from /products/soyuz/+spec/personal-package-archives, but most of this can be done without it.

BenC (2007-02-14): Casper bits done. Colin to handle Ubiquity parts.

2007-03-05 kamion: I believe that the ubiquity bits are all done now; tomorrow's daily desktop CD build should implement this, barring bugs.
