Sync two (or more) ubuntu installations - data, programs et al

Registered by Krishna Sankar on 2006-06-18

When people upgrade their computers, they also want to transfer their settings, programs, and other stuff. This might not hit us now, but we will face it in the next couple of cycles

InfoWorld had a good article on how Mac does it (basically install OS in the new machine, connect it to the LAN and point at the old machine - all settings and programs will be transferred!) and what a relief it was compared to windows. I will get a link, but the magazine in San Jose and I am in Paris ;o(

Taking this further, we can also have a facility to clone an installation; which would be a good functionality for enterprise and small business installations.

For this round, I want to point this out and we could add this for Edgy +1. Also i haven't done the research to see if this exists, part or in full. Most probably some one have already thought fo it and have a package available ...
