Subpixel hinting in OpenOffice.org

Registered by Piotr Gawrysiak

Currently OpenOffice.org applications shipped with Ubuntu (e.g. in Gutsy) do not respect system wide fontconfig settings. Most important effect is that if a subpixel hinting is switched on in font configuration dialog, all Ubuntu applications will use supixel font renedring - except OpenOffice.org, that is still using only grayscale hinting, and thus looks quite bad on LCD screen. Note that Windows version of OpenOffice uses subpixel hinting (called Cleartype) without any problems, so lack of it might be preceived as a regression by someone switching from Windows to Hardy.
