Smart card login easiness

Currently trying to use smart cards (such as Aladdin eToken) doesn't seem to be easy in (K)ubuntu. In MS Windows I just plug the smart card in on login screen and type the pin, that is it. On the Kubuntu this isn't so easy. I haven't managed to get this happen. There seems to be no support for this in KDM/GDM. This is a major drawback for our company and we can't migrate from our aging Windows XPs to a modern Linux distribution. It is crucial to allow users/admins configure smart cards earier!
