Enable "People Nearby" per default in every installation
I request ubuntu to create and enable per default a "People Nearby" / Salut / Bonjour / iChat / link-local XMPP account, for every user. This would fit great with the general "just works" approach, currently it's quite a hassle to do that manually.
The use is to be able to exchange chat messages with other users in the same local network. This might already come handy in liveCD boots, used as installation environments, to easily exchange logs / configuration / troubleshooting URLs etc. with another computer.
Since empathy by default sits hidden in the system tray/notification area, users not needing this wouldn't even notice. Avahi is also enabled by default, negating the argument of being too chatty.
The most important discussion point I see is the contact information that is advertised.
Please tell me if this as a duplicate or should be better proposed elsewhere.
