Automatic Personal Backup System

Registered by Bashwork

It is a sad fact that end users as well as advanced users do not back up their data. As a result, files are commonly lost to saving mistakes, corruption, or deletion. With so many good tools, users should feel safe about their personal files and not have to have to go through awkward backup procedures. Microsoft Windows has "System Recovery" and Apple OSX has "Time Machine", it is time for Linux to step up to the plate.

This project was originally proposed by Lois Desplat as a google summer of code project named Mnemosyne (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-soc/2007-May/000027.html), however, I have not seen any update on his work since May 25. Thanks to many high quality SCM packages (git, bzr, hg,...) this project should be trivial to implement. Therefore, I would like to restart this project under the new name of Safehouse. The project specifications as well as further discussion can be found on the specification page.
