Collaborate with Arch to Gain their Advantages

Registered by John Bradley Bulsterbaum

Arch linux is not the "out-of-the-box" linux solution, however it's a middle-of-the-road "you can do it" solution. It has interesting features; it's very very fast and lightweight not only in its lightest install, but further because it is self-tailored; it also does not have the major gaff of waiting half a year or more just to get a single update for a program (which may itself be out of date by release).

One of the things hampering linux adoption is this very thing: for instance, for IM clients protocols might change and Linux systems have to wait nearly a year to get the (by then) out-of-date update. Or, for instance, Firefox can be released in a new version...and the Linux user does not benefit from any official immediate update.

I propose that the Ubuntu team extend a hand and request to the Arch team to somehow implement rolling, stable, updates in Ubuntu. I know this wouldn't apply to everything, however it would be a major advance for such a popular distribution: and a boon to linux if others followed.
