Inform users of problematic hardware

Registered by Agostino Russo

It is important to shape expectations as early as possible. Users should be informed when they boot from Live CD about black-listed and/or non functioning hardware, together with a reasonable explanation and some suggestions, in a simple and clear way average users can understand. Special attention should be paid to network connection and related issues (wifi, modem...). Users should not be left to find out about problems by themselves. Most will use the Live CD as a demo to decide whether to install, and knowing if their hardware is supported is probably the single most important piece of information. Moreover this will help mark the line between supported and unsupported hardware. Detection could be based on a black-list and/or on tests (particularly for networking).
