Postpone HDD Scan until convenient

This morning I needed to access the internet before going out. I turned on the computer, and was held up for 10 minutes while the computer scanned the hard disc. I know this is important, but for me, I needed to get out of the house then - I could scan the hdd later in the day.

I am not suggesting being able to postpone the scan forever, like in Windows, but the user should have the option of postponing maybe twice before a check is forced. Then, the user has the ability to perform this scan at his/her leisure.
