Built in Parental Controls (with GUI)
I believe that Ubuntu 8.04 needs to ship with Parental Controls and a GUI – By the release of 8.04 both Vista and Max OS 10.5 will be shipping, both of which include extensive parental control systems.
I believe end users will realistically expect home operating systems to include this feature.
The system needs to include not only internet filtering, but it needs to enable parents to control the times at which the computer can be used, what applications can be run and it needs to have logging functions.
I believe it is vital that all the functions can be controlled from a simple GUI front end, which also allows access to more advanced features if needed.
I wouldn't have the Controls enabled by default and there would need to be extensive community discussions regarding the “levels” of internet filtering and program monitoring.
