Optimized Mozilla for faster web surfing

I installed Linux Ubuntu (5.04 and 5.10) on 2 PC's in dual boot (with Windows 2000 and XP). After the Linux installation, Mozilla was very very very slow. So slow that I decided to go back to Windows because IE was really faster (sorry...). Later, I discovered optimizations for Mozilla accessible with the "special URL" "about:config". An automatic optimization utility for Mozilla exists for Windows. I would be great to have an equivalent under Linux or an optimized version directly installed with Ubuntu.
