Xorg monitor settings online database
1. If Xorg monitor detection fails or user wants to bypass autodetection, he can have an option to download monitor settings from an online Ubuntu database. After successful monitor config, users can opt for submitting their settings to such online Xorg settings database and share it with others (they may share other hw config too, such as multimedia keyboards, graphic cards, mice, laptops&tablets, scanners...). Such online database should also contain user rating of the submitted settings.
2. If user uses the original install CD with .inf files to set up the monitor, he definitely should post the settings online so others don't have to repeat it.
3. Monitor database can be transferred to Ubuntu's Xorg installation script as a fixed list of monitors for manual selection.

2007-11-20 bryce: Added specification URL and drafted spec. This looks like could be used to feed into displayconfig-gtk's MonitorsDB
2008-01-16 bryce: Postponing feature as per discussion at today's platform team meeting. Lack of time + possibility of being superseded by hwdb work in 8.10.
2008-05-27 bryce: Discussed at UDS Intrepid in Prague, and decided since the number of situations that would benefit from this are rapidly dwindling, that the cost/benefit of developing it is not good enough. Efforts are better spent fixing things via submitting quirks upstream, which we had very good results with in Gutsy and Hardy development.
