Migration Assistant - User accounts migration from other installations
Typical home system upgrade use case: A full system upgrade usually requires the migration of the user accounts. Actually, most of my definitive system upgrades have a couple of previous test-installations. The same process is repeated every time the new system has been installed and tested:
1. Mount old system root.
2. Select users to migrate. Create accounts in the new system.
3. Copy corresponding home directories.
4. Update ownership of the home directories.
It really looks like something that could be done by the Migration Assistant or an specific tool.

Whiteboard
Initial requirements for the User Accounts Assistant:
1. Capable of migrating users from any Linux/Unix system.
2. Home directories migration: allow selection of the subdirectories to copy.
3. User Accounts migration conflict resolution: when user ids collide, allow different options like generate new ids or merge users.
