MIDI support (timidity, fluidSynth or something better?) should be installed by default with Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu.
For example, clicking on a midi file in Nautilus should bring up a player and play.
Second, midi in Firefox should work; go to
http://
and try to listen to the examples. Works out of the box in W*****s! :)

It doesn't work in Feisty, although a gstreamer extension does exist. This should be supported by default in Totem and in the Totem Firefox plugin as many websites have midi files.

Works in Intrepid.
