Massive data management

Registered by John Bradley Bulsterbaum

The IROD system is a tool available under a BSD-style license for managing massive amounts of files and data. It could potentially make Ubuntu even more attractive for larger environments and there's a review here: http://www.linuxworld.com/news/2008/021108-irods-data-management-tool.html. It also shouldn't be a problem since Gnome and KDE are LGPL'd, and thus any front-ends could be licensed BSD (preferable to contribute back to the project) or LGPL (works).
