GUI tool to manage 'places' menu

There should be a GUI tool to manage the 'places' menu. So users can decide what they want to see in the 'places' menu. Sort of 'Alacarte menu Editor'. I should be possible to mount a device without getting an icon on the desktop but only in the 'places' menu.
