At install time when networking is present, install the most current packages available.
When installing from a live CD, packages on the disc can be used to install a complete system with all packages at the revision level available at the release date. The only packages updated online during installation are security updates. I propose that when a network connection is present on the live CD, the user should be given an option at install time to "Check online for updated software". If implemented as a checkbox, the system could follow a series of prompts like those available on mini.iso installations to select a repository and install current packages. I would suggest a layout like the following:
Add an optional checkbox just before install "Check online for updated software" and
1) If the box was checked, either select the main archive.ubuntu.com mirror or select a mirror automagiaclly based on the user's time zone selection and then acquire and install current packages
or
2) if the box in was not checked, install packages from the CD only as in previous versions of live CD installations
As a bonus, this would keep users without network connections from having their installations hang with a "Security updates unavailable" error when the installer attempts to go online for updates.
