smarter kubuntu-desktop install with synaptic

When installing the kubuntu-desktop package with synaptic in ubuntu, your gnome desktop will change. The install (of kdm?) does ask if you want to keep using gdm, but it does change unasked the u-splash and much worse, gtkrc will change the gnome theme, and (at least at my desktop) even crash the gnome-settings-
gtkrc can be very usefull if you only work with kde, but if you switch between the two desktops, gtkrc will create a lot off trouble in gnome.
It would be great, if next release, when you install kde in ubuntu, you would not loose your ubuntu u-splash and your gtk-themes anymore.
