Flexibility in support for different touchscreens/hardware configurations

Registered by Duncan McGreggor

Hardware vendors with brand new or non-standard hardware components are going to want Ubuntu support for their devices. What can we do with the Open Input Framework to make this process as easy as possible? Is it just a matter of providing thorough docs? Let's carefully analyze the process we currently follow to see where we might be able to develop tools or code that could provide an improved experience for community members, hardware vendors, and anyone else interesting in getting Ubuntu on MT hardware sooner than later.
