Grub detects other operating systems at every boot.

Everytime ubuntu is installed, it checks for other operating systems, and adds them to the grub boot menu. it does a very good job. if a new operating system is installed after grub has been installed, grub should automatically(or have an option to from the grub menu) go through the detection process again and add any new operating systems. In the same way, grub could fix itself it gets broken.
