Provide a preview feature while hovering over video icons.

A user could identify a video - granted the icon view shows a static from the video clip. It might be more useful to allow a preview of the video (say first 60 seconds of movie) by hovering he mouse over the video file's icon - i much the same way that a preview can be heard for audio files. In many ways this would provide consistency between media formats. it is possible that this might not be feasible for systems with struggling hardware, or limited resources, in this situation, perhaps the functionality could degrade appropriately. It might be possible to display animated previews for all videos, but it might become too busy, and affect a user's ability to pick out a relevant file.
