Registered by LaserJock

Edubuntu LTSP servers often have many users and the users and groups often change. Also, many LTSP servers are put into a Windows environment and user management needs to be easy in this situation.

Whiteboard

The scripts from Karoshi Linux would likely prove useful as they have already been adapted to provide:
GUI Web Management or servers, networks, profiles, software and users (students, teachers, admin...)
Their scripts allow Linux clients, LTSP (automatic setup) and windows clients
Bulk User Creation, Wake on LAN, Kixtart Logins, Room Booking, Help Centre, Asset Register
Multimedia Storage and Access, Website eGroupWare, VLE/Online Classroom, WebMail, Home Access
Room Internet Banning, Website Cache, Internet Blocking, Internet Logging, Online Library
The web based GUI makes it easy to create and manage users, and even create bulk users including LTSP and windows clients

Although the current version is designed for PCLinuxOS the scripts available already provide some support for Ubuntu.
The setup provides for a "single server install" similar to current Edubuntu installs as well as the ability to configure multiple server types including:
Authentication/PDC Server, File Servers, Proxy Server, Web Server, Print Server, Backup Server,
Server Monitoring Server, LTSP Servers, Media Studies Specialist Server
All of this makes for a very scalable system that is easy to setup and maintain
