OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 will most likely be the version shipped with Maverick as 3.3 has not branched yet and it takes on average 5 months to stabilize before an upstream release, its only 4 months until Feature Freeze now and there is no estimate of when it will branch. (2010-04-27)

Oracle expected to slow down OpenOffice development.

* It's difficult to follow a project with 50+ mailing lists.
* Large features suddenly appear in branches without discussion.

Ubuntu's position: it would be far better for Oracle and Novell (Go-oo) to
combine their code in an effective way, and that would resolve our dilemma
better than the "beauty contest" that we have right now.

Why Ubuntu uses the ooo-build:
 * Ubuntu has focused on packaging and integration of OO on the desktop.
 * Not interested in developing new features ourselves.
 * Would like OO.o project to adopt recent build tools; outdated build environment
   is painful.
 * With the ARM port, we've seen that OO.o upstream was not willing/able to
help. Upstream should help with porting effort.
 * debian uses go-oo build, and it's a major chunk of work for Ubuntu not to
   inherit this.

User Experience
 * Fine-tune default configuration for UNE and Desktop
