Ubuntu 6.06 point release process

Registered by Colin Watson

At the time of writing a week after the release of Ubuntu 6.06, several installer issues have already arisen which are known to affect many users and which generate enormous numbers of bug reports. (This is not too surprising since we released a completely new installer frontend.) Part of long-term support for this release should include a means to correct installer bugs, which involves re-rolling CD images. This specification proposes methods and processes for this.

kamion 2006-08-10: We didn't do the Soyuz stuff the same way, and that's blocked on having a reasonable database representation of point releases in Launchpad; instead we just took a quick archive snapshot (in drescher:~cjwatson/dapper.1-security-updates-snapshot/). However, 6.06.1 is now released, which was the main thing!
