Set a standard volume for the log-in sound

One of the primary issues I've had with Ubuntu is the default log-in sound. Every time I reinstall, I have to make sure to turn off the log-in sounds for both the GDM log-in screen and the user account log-in process. Very often, I will be watching a movie at home with the volume at full. Because of the erratic behavior of suspend with the fglrx drivers, I shutdown the laptop when I have to head to classes and meetings. I'm then rudely reminded that I left the volume at full and have to embarrassingly try to hush the laptop until the sound is done. I've noted that others have requested that a slider be enabled on the log-in screen for the volume for this reason, but I have an addition/different idea. I like the idea of a volume slider, but that doesn't remove the annoying loud bongo drums at the login screen. So, I propose that we have a CONSISTENT sound volume (both with the master volume and the PCM volume level) as well as sliders on the main login page for those needing a truly muted African safari.
