LoCo Portal Content Review

Registered by David Planella

As part of the work on the LoCo portal this cycle, we'd like to review the current content in terms of the information we present to newcomers to the site, and ensure the core message of the site and all relevant documentation is up to date.

In short, we want to ensure that the LoCo portal has prominent additional sections with brief and visually rich information on:
- What a LoCo team is
- How to join a LoCo team
- ...

Session notes:
[rrnwexec] 05-07-2012
Please consider encouraging people to find a LoCo in their town/city and if none exists, to consider creating an event locally. We need to constantly remind people that Ubuntu is better in person :)
Also, can we beg mhall to update the Community Lens?

- Home page design iteration (https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/community-p-loco-portal-design-iteration)
- Content review (this blueprint)
The goal of this blueprint is to provide a better understanding of what LoCo teams are and how to join them, and bring in this information in a visually rich way that can be inspiring and engaging to visitors. We want to showcase how vibrant and fun LoCo teams are, and encourage and facilitate joining them.
Some ideas:
- Review the current LoCo portal content
 - *What LoCo teams are* - http://loco.ubuntu.com/about-loco/ - comments?
 - *How to use the LoCo portal* - http://loco.ubuntu.com/using-locodir/ - comments? Necessary?
 - *What the LoCo Council is* - http://loco.ubuntu.com/loco-council/ - comments? Change to
'Governance'?
- Create a list of content needs
- Find appropriate pictures to add to the new LoCo portal sections
- Find community members interested in providing this content
- Work with the LoCo team developers to add the sections and content to the site
- Link to ubuntudevelopers LoCo video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITk8PGBkMXQ in Using/About LoCos?
Purpose: excite the newcomers to joining LoCo.
Ideas:

    Content:

    Add "after-event" reports

past events should be able to have pictures relating to them.

Add ability of a team to highlight local businesses that have sponsored events or that support Ubuntu

Add text to resource pictograms as they are not intuitive or discoverable.

LoCo portal to look something like Ubuntu app dev site.(design)

Add screenshots to the "Using the LoCo Team Portal" page

    Team expiry information

Look for wiki pages to move to the LoCo Portal

Google+ Integration (?) similar to twitter

PROBLEM: We need someone to work these ideas out! Simply, a developer.
SOLUTION : Write all the ideas.

draw attention to this from other developers (CSS & Javascript)
