Edubuntu Plans for 12.10

#uds-q #community #edubuntu #zentyal #tablet #kde

Topics: (we probably have *way* too much for one session, or even one release)
- Edubuntu Core Product
  - Authentication Configuration in Ubiquity, AD/SSSD/LDAP/etc
  - New Artwork
  - KDE Edu packages review
  - Push for Unity Educational Lenses
  - Multiseat
  - Tomboy/Gnote choice
  - Package playground wallpaper collection - http://golden-ribbon.deviantart.com/gallery/36547782
  - Educational App promotions in Software Center / Touch apps on tablets
  - Dynamic Installer Slideshow
  - Juju charms for educational webapps (moodle, etc)
  - Remote live installer
  - Edubuntu book revival
- Edubuntu Server
  - Edubuntu Server task?
   - Schooltool
   - Zentyal Server
   - Samba4
   - Fog project / Disk cloning
   - LTSP
   - LXC
- Edubuntu Tablet
 - Kubuntu is doing most of the heavy lifting with the Zatab: developer version is $250 - http://zareason.com/shop/zatab.html
  - We need to investigate multitouch for html5/css/javascript apps.
  - Promote platform as technology preview for app developers, create awareness around getting apps into the right places for Software Center
  - Decide on Plasma Active / Unity
  - Epoptes Tablet Features
- Marketing Updates
 - Edubuntu Drupal 7 migration
 - More / Updated screenshots for new apps
 - Do we still want Identica? It's rotting away.

Discussion:
- Authentication, sssd will/should move to main
- sssd works fine against AD, so might against samba, needs stability testing
- Collaboration between zentyal and edubuntu
- Unity 2D is being deprecated and Unity 3D will use LLVM on older hardware (will be slow)
- Multiseat, desktop team isn't committing to it, we're
- Ubiquity options for server, workstation, ltsp server, possibly radio buttons and then fine tuned options afterwards, get some guidance on how to present this to user
- For tablets, web apps rule, investigate flash support, Unity 3D, x2go application server on edubuntu
