squashFS vs unionFS for the ClassmatePC Ubuntu
Registered by
Richard Weideman
The ClassmatePC has a limited data storage on the internal flash: 2GB
The 2GB must accommodate the Ubuntu install, as well as updates, as well as a decent size for user data.
squashFS allows for:
* a small install footprint
* fast booting
unionFS is the standard Ubuntu choice
This session will discuss the pros anc cons of each file system, and take a technical decision on a final design choice.

Whiteboard
The UME team have built their base install using the same file system configuration as Oliver selected for the Classmate PC.
This discussion is therefore no longer needed, as we will proceed on parallel paths to the UME team.
