Central auth setup via a GUI for OpenLDAP or SAMBA

Registered by Jason Simmons

A method which enables a system administrator to enable central authentication of desktop via SAMBA or OpenLDAP. The YAST-SAMBA and YAST-OPENLDAP tools provide this functionality very effectively. A GUI option write from install to indicate the source of authentication "/etc/passwd, openLDAP or SAMBA". Perhaps a GUI under system->Administration to join a domain or setup LDAP authentication. Likewise-open for SAMBA servers you could say. Likewise-open is useful for AD environments. However not very useful if you are using a SAMBA PDC for use with mixed windows & Linux Desktops. Having to craft your own PAM, smb.conf,nss.conf files by hand is tiresome and prone to error. A GUI should be created to enable ease of use to join a SAMBA PDC domain, or central LDAP authentication
