Integrate BumpTop 3D desktop ideas into Ubuntu

Registered by Jeremy Manning

When computational objects on the desktop are able to be manipulated in a realistic way (as one would manipulate real-world objects), the separation between the physical desk (what the computer is sitting on) and the virtual desktop (i.e. what's displayed on the screen) becomes blurred. This is a Good Thing. The BumpTop 3D desktop (see a demo here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0ODskdEPnQ) is a step in the right direction, and its ideas should be implemented in Ubuntu for a unique, productive experience.

Whiteboard

There is a similiar project called lowfat, but it's in a very early development stage. http://macslow.thepimp.net/?page_id=18

Note: this spec does NOT require bumptop to run on Ubuntu. Bumptop has not been (and likely won't be) released to the public, so that wouldn't work anyway. The idea of bumptop, however -- seeing how far the desktop metaphor should (or can) stretch -- is interesting, potentially useful, and therefore worth trying out.
