Make Ubuntu et al. more bandwidth-friendly.
Currently, Ubuntu et al. are painful to use regularly on a slow internet connection such as dial-up, slow DSL, ISDN (does anyone still use that?), etc. Anyhow, there are several aspects of Ubuntu that can be modified to help alleviate the "narrow tubes" problem. One example is with APT: the need to download daily pool updates (if any exist of course), and whenever updated packages need to be downloaded. The use of a better compression scheme such as LZMA (used as the default in 7z) and the introduction of a binary-patching system such as the one used in vanilla Firefox could help alleviate bandwidth issues.

Yes people are still using ISDN as it is still cheaper than ADSL (if you dont use it much),
but I'm sorry to say that I have been trying for months, but I can't connect to the internet using
Kubuntu (Edgy) +ISDN :(
