what non geeks want

I am a non geek so i don't know much about ubuntu. But the only thing i don't like about ubuntu is that every time i try to stream a quick time video, or windows media player video. It automatically streams the video instead of letting it load entirely, before streaming it. Which causes the video to pause constantly.
