Thank you for reassigning the bug.

Yes, the info should really be in the documentation, too.

I have filed this from practice. Many support requests deal with (new, aka ex windows) users that have installed ubuntu not able to easily collaborate with other users on their ubuntu installation.

The explanation screen is almost empty when setting up the initial user account, and the question arises in new users "What,... is this good for?" The info should not prevent people to get though the installer as quickly as possible. But it will set the caucious first time installers right on track, just when they have taken the time to install their system. (They won't read docs on this later on, but complain about not being able to collaborate on ubuntu.)

It might be possible to make this even more brief, if for example group directories will be created with new groups by default.

"ubuntu is linux for humans"
It's not about how to fiddle with unix file permissions, but how to collaborate in an debian/ubuntu setting.

FYI the issue of "users not belonging to users group" is now separated out into Bug #253103
(Please comment if you think that that is a bug that needs fixing, as there is some hesitance.)
