An "interesting" variant of that is:

  sudo apt install upstart upstart-bin systemd-sysv
  sudo telinit u

While with utopic's upstart telinit returned immediately and systemd was run, with vivid's upstart the telinit now hangs eternally (but systemd still gets run)
