ok I am still working on the vm, but the logs you had me run were interesting. the users-admin.log just had 40 copies of the line below (each one followed by a blank line):
(users-admin:14023): Liboobs-CRITICAL **: oobs_group_get_gid: assertion `group != NULL' failed

while the critical error caught my eye (grin) i don't know much about oobs. (reading now)

but the stb-groups.log file was much more interesting:

line 606 in /usr/lib/perl5/Net/DBus/Binding/Iterator.pm for me is inside the sub append_struct method/function in the perl module.
