The patch for lucid as generated by debdiff unfortunately ends up being rather verbose, because the existing packages uses the 3.0 (quilt) source format with all the changes in a single patch, and the order of the files in the patch does not appear to be well-defined so they change around and generate enormous debdiffs. I don't think it would be a good idea to attempt to change the packaging in lucid. It comes out more readable if you unpack the packages before and after and run 'diff -ru old new | filterdiff -x \*/debian-changes'; I've attached the result of doing so.
