Yep, confirmed. The symlink does not need to be in an NFS-mounted file system. Just trying to defer a symlink on an automounted file system, which mount is denied, seems to be sufficient.

It seems like it took longer to trigger the crash this time, but that is quite subjective. I am going to try again and see if it does indeed take longer to crash when the symlink is on a local file system.
