I (a recent vte/gnome-terminal developer) firmly disagree with the previous comment's proposal in multiple levels, please see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=697475#c43 - #c44 for my response. Sourcing vte.sh from .bashrc or /etc/bash.bashrc, as per the original ticket, is the right way to go.
