@wlx: hal permissions seem to be just fine, so if automounting failed for you, it's a different bug. Your lshal output rings a bell, though. I believe your issue is fixed in the latest hal in dapper. Please confirm and open a new bug if it still fails for you.

So, does anybody have a recipe how to reproduce the original bug here? I. e. the steps that lead to the 'hal' user (or haldaemon in latest dapper) to lose its groups?
